That's A Hit: Maryland Man Turns $3 Lottery Win Into $30K Top Prize Playing 'Battleship'

What started as a slow day for a loyal Maryland Lottery player turned into an unexpected cash windfall for a Prince George's County man when he reinvested his meager winnings and turned them into a five-figure jackpot.

Bowie resident Jorge Baez nearly sank his own battleship, but took one last shot, and sure enough, landed himself a $30,000 top-prize playing a FAST PLAY ticket.

The retired contractor picked up $20 worth of scratchers on the day of his lucky win, only winning $3, though he made the most of those dollars, using them to purchase a FAST PLAY BATTLESHIP ticket at the Hampton Mall Exxon in Capitol Heights.

His battleship was not sunk.

It took Ventura a few days, but he later discovered that had, in fact, won a $30,000 jackpot, but not before throwing away the ticket, he told his daughter. His win marks the first of 10 top prizes in the game, which went on sale last year.

The father of four said that he plans to spoil his loved ones with his winnings, and a trip to the Dominican Republic is also on the horizon.
